Counselling can be just as essential for older adults as they are for younger populations. Later life can involve significant transitions such as retirement, changes in health, loss of loved ones, evolving levels of independence, and reflections on mortality. Many individuals also face challenges related to isolation, chronic illness, or physical limitations. Addressing these concerns in therapy can help enhance emotional well-being, strengthen coping strategies, and restore a sense of meaning and quality of life.
To help make therapy more accessible, we offer online or in person therapy, and we’re proud to offer discounted rates for seniors. Our goal is to reduce barriers, as we believe everyone deserves the opportunity to heal, grow, and find renewed meaning in life—at any age.

Family Therapy

Family therapy offers a space for families to connect, communicate, and tackle challenges together. Whether you’re navigating stress, life changes, or ongoing conflicts, therapy helps everyone understand each other better and work toward solutions as a team. The result? Hello!

My name is Shayla and I was born and raised in Grande Prairie. I have always loved working with children and youth, so I began working at a childcare centre in early adulthood and completed my Bachelor of Education through the University of Alberta.

I have been teaching students aged 5-18 for the past 10 years. Throughout my life, friends, family members, and students have confided in me during their most vulnerable moments. These experiences sparked my passion for supporting others, and ultimately led me to pursue a career in counselling. I enrolled in the Masters of Arts in Counselling Psychology program at Yorkville University in 2023, where I have practiced counselling skills and learned evidence-based therapeutic approaches.

As a counselling intern, I am a student member of the Canadian Counselling and Psychotherapy Association. I am also a volunteer at Kids Help Phone, which is partnered with the Suicide Crisis Helpline. With this crisis line, I provide crisis responding to people experiencing a wide range of concerns.

I am excited for this opportunity to work with kids 12 years and up, and adults of all ages at Paramount Psychology & Counselling. I draw from cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT), narrative therapy, solution-focused therapy, mindfulness therapy, and other approaches to help clients reach their goals.

My focus is on providing an empathetic, collaborative, and nonjudgmental space for you to feel safe, supported, and understood.

I look forward to supporting you on your journey.

Hello there!

My name is Owen Campbell, a home-grown member of the community who was raised on a cattle ranch in the Saddle Hills area.

From an early age, friends and family gravitated towards me for support and a listening ear, which cultivated in me a passion for helping others. This drove me to pursue a bachelor’s degree in psychology at the University of Calgary, where I graduated with distinction.

I moved back to Grande Prairie to be closer to family, enrolled in the Master of Arts in Counselling Psychology though Yorkville University and became a registered student member of the Psychologists’ Association of Alberta.

As Canadian Certified Counsellor (CCC) with Paramount Psychology, I am excited to help children, youth and adults gain understanding of, and find relief from, the negative thoughts, feelings, and behaviours that create distress.

I draw upon Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, mindfulness theory, humanistic approaches, narrative therapy, solution-focused therapy, and other frameworks to help my clients progress towards their goals.

As a parent who has learned to balance school, work, and family life, I understand how stress and worry can build up. I am here to support you in safe and non-judgmental space, as you journey forward to find better mental health.

Hello!

My name is Kourtney and I was born and raised right here in Grande Prairie, in 2017 I ventured off to the University of Lethbridge to obtain my bachelor’s degree in Psychology. From there I enrolled with Yorkville University to obtain my Masters of Arts in Counselling Psychology, graduating with honours in 2025 and becoming a registered member of the Canadian Counselling & Psychotherapy Association.

Over the years, I have worked with a range of agencies, from not-for-profits to specialized treatment service teams, supporting both youth and adults. I have many years of experience specializing in child and youth mental health, providing support across various settings including clinics, homes, and schools.

My work has also involved supporting families and parents navigating complex mental health challenges and attachment ruptures within their family systems. Additionally, I have supported women and children affected by domestic abuse and varying traumatic events. I have also facilitated many parenting workshops as well as youth mental health workshops.

In addition to my formal education and work experience, I have taken many different courses and trainings in various psychological and counselling modalities. As a therapist at Paramount Psychology & Counselling, I am excited to work with children (ages 5 and older), youth, families, and adults, applying the skills and theories I have developed over the years.

In my practice, I draw from a range of modalities including Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), Emotion-Focused Therapy (EFT), Solution-Focused Therapy, Attachment-Based Family Therapy, Play Therapy, and other evidence-based frameworks to support clients in achieving their goals.

My objective is always to explore and address the root causes of a client’s distress, approaching each individual from a holistic wellness perspective that considers the full picture—not just one component. I’m excited to welcome you into my space and work together on your journey!

Hello!

I’m a Registered Social Worker with a Master’s degree in Individual Mental Health. My clinical background is trauma-based with over 20 years of experience working with victims and perpetrators of both sexual and physical violence. During this time not only did I provide therapy to adults, couples, and youth, but I also presented numerous workshops and keynotes, and testified at the House of Commons in Ottawa on the topic of Domestic Violence in rural and remote communities.

I’m committed to best practices and have sought out specialized training in many areas. This includes being Gottman trained (all 3 levels), certification in EMDR, and extensive training in expressive play and sand play therapy as well as Somatic Resolution.

I believe that healing, getting unstuck, moving forward, or gaining new insight and perspective is a process that I’m privileged to be a part of. It’s an honour to have the opportunity to support clients through their journey. So, whether that’s big “T” trauma or little “t” trauma, grief and loss, or finding your best self, I’m here for you.

Hello and welcome!

My name is Kalua Rhody and I am the owner of Paramount Psychology and Counselling, where I provide therapy and clinical supervision services.

I have been a Registered Psychologist since 2008, and over the years I’ve had the privilege of supporting teens, adults and couples through many of life’s challenges and transitions.

From 2008 to 2015, I worked in the non-profit sector, providing trauma-informed therapy and crisis intervention to survivors of abuse while collaborating closely with community agencies to ensure comprehensive support. During this time, I also facilitated self-esteem and women’s support groups, co-created a life skills program to support addiction recovery, and delivered specialized training on sexual abuse and trauma-informed practice to professionals across Alberta.

I supervised nursing students during their mental health practicums, and co-presented at professional conferences—early experiences that deepened my passion for teaching, mentorship, and advancing best practices in mental health care. I also had the privilege of teaching an introductory psychology course at the local college, which deepened my interest in mentorship and planted the seed that I would one day provide supervision for those entering the field.

In 2012, I opened my private practice and in 2020 expanded it to Paramount Psychology & Counselling, a group practice where I continue to offer individual and couples therapy as well as clinical supervision.

My therapeutic approach is collaborative and flexible—I draw from Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), mindfulness, positive psychology, attachment theory and neuroscience, and am passionate about mind-body strategies such EFT Tapping (Emotion Freedom Techniques) and EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing). I also integrate advanced couples’ therapy methods, including the Gottman Method, the Developmental Model, the Doherty Approach and Relational Life Therapy, always tailoring therapy to fit each client’s unique goals.

Among other outcomes, I help my clients learn how to: * Discover and release limiting beliefs or self-sabotaging patterns * Communicate effectively and resolve conflict for stronger, more fulfilling relationships * Manage stress, anxiety, and overwhelm in healthier ways * Heal from trauma, abuse, and childhood wounds * Navigate grief, loss, and major life transitions * Let go of fears, anger, or sadness that keep depression entrenched * Build resilience, inner strength, and courage * Set boundaries and practice assertiveness * Achieve balance between work, relationships, and personal wellbeing * Cultivate self-compassion, self-forgiveness, and self-love

Alongside my clinical work, I provide supervision for counselling interns and provisional psychologists and consultation for colleagues. I view it as a collaborative process where emerging professionals can grow in confidence and skill while strengthening their ethical decision-making, case conceptualization, and self-reflection.

At the heart of all that I do is the belief that relationship is paramount. More important than any single technique is the quality of the relationship—whether in therapy or supervision. My intention is to ensure you feel deeply seen and understood, while gently inviting you to take meaningful steps toward the life and relationships you want.
